Queenie and Toby’s wedding reception at our garden wedding venue

Queenie and Toby’s wedding reception at The Wattle Park Chalet was none like we had ever seen before at our beautiful Melbourne garden wedding venue. The room was lit up with guests all dressed up in bright patterned dresses, gowns, headscarves and jewellery. The couple of the night was dressed in gorgeous matching garments with African inspired patterns in preparation for their much anticipated honeymoon to the Masai heartlands of Kenya.

Their wedding cake was a playful safari inspired two tier cake, adorned with two adorable marzipan giraffes. The sides were decorated with beautiful little pink and yellow flowers and lush green grass all amazingly piped on with cream, and crumble as edible sand. When the cake was cut open, it revealed a surprise. In between the layers of the fluffy sponge cake were thin slices of juicy red watermelon! Everyone was delighted by the unique cake and the way Queenie and Toby had, once again, put their own twist on things and made it a little sweeter and better.

After the formalities, we were visited by African dancers who taught guests traditional dances from Congo. Every guest was up on their feet in a circle around the dance floor, singing along and dancing to the exciting beat on the djembe.

During his speech, Queenie’s father had said that it didn’t feel like they were “giving away” their daughter, but it was like welcoming in a new son into the family. The closeness of the families that he spoke of was evident to anyone that was in the room. The smiles and the joy shared between the families and friends throughout the evening, and the affection and passion with which their they spoke of Queenie and Toby created a wonderful atmosphere that filled the room with warmth.
