“Have an idea or theme that will be in your budget”

I’ve had couples that have had flowers galore, draping ivy from the balconies with a rainforest look, with gelato & coffee carts and extravagant centrepieces. But I’ve also had couples that have kept it simple and just decorated the tables with a candelabra or a vase. It’s all up your budget. Jot down that big dream idea then start cutting down on what you can do without. That expensive bomboniere you were set on probably isn’t essential to making your wedding successful. Some things I’ve had couples focus their finances on for their wedding day:

  • The dress
  • The cake
  • The rings
  • Their bouquets
  • Wedding reception venue (location and catering)
  • Ceremony location
  • wedding venue decorations
  • The photographers/ videographers
  • Entertainment (bands)

Once you’ve settled on these and prioritised the important things, you can adjust everything else around your budget.

So you’re set on that florist because it matches your dress. But it tips you over budget a little. In order to afford your vision you know you’ll have to lower your guest list. From experience, an average of 80% of your guests rsvp ‘yes’ to attend your wedding. So not inviting those you think don’t need to be there frees up your budget a little bit.

“Delegate the responsibility of tasks and be organised”

Let’s face it, you can’t be everywhere at once. Everyone is there for you on your wedding day so why not get them to help?

I’ve seen mothers and sisters and cousins really take charge when it comes to weddings. They love it and want to be help make it a great day. So encourage family members by giving them simple tasks that makes them feel needed an have a part to play at your wedding. From aunts organising flowers on the day to the father of the groom dropping off the cake at the reception, get everyone involved and there will be less pressure on you so you can focus on being beautiful for your big day.

When you are organised, it also lessens your stress. Create checklists and schedules in advance. Hand them to your bridesmaids and groomsmen for them to go through and check throughout the day. Create clear plans and maps with your wedding venue so the right guests are on the right tables. I offer my couples a room layout map for just this reason. By being organised and having clear instructions, everyone can understand and make your wedding great.

By fitting your budget and getting help, your dream wedding can still become a reality. Wedding Planning is all about getting around these two aspects and once you’ve done that, you’re on the road to a stress free and successful wedding.
